BALLS 2006 - Team Numb Project Project "Questionable Mental Health" It was a minimum diameter Q18800, all aluminum with a steel/aluminum fin can and fiberglass nose cone. The vehicle was 18' 1 5/8th" from tip to tail and weighed in around 450lbs on the pad. It was a true 8" OD. The motor was a 6 grain BATES configuration using Numb's blue "AlumaFlame" formula. It was supposed to burn for 6.9 seconds and develop 139,000ns total impulse. The failure mode was a thermal failure between the 2nd and 3rd grains (i.e. liner burn through). We were using 2 ARTS for avionics and had a couple of pull chain smoke canisters on board. The pictures tell the tale.
